Walk for all Ages Raises Over $48,000

More than 160 walkers braved hot temperatures on June 8 to participate in the 14th annual Walk for All Ages in Ocean Grove. Together, they raised more than $48,000 for the Fellowship Fund. In front of the majestic Great Auditorium, the sound of bagpiper and Ocean Grove resident, Joe Simmons, lured walkers to the starting line. James C. Batten, the Homes' president and Scott and Nancy Hoffman, chief administrative officers of the Camp Meeting Association, led walkers along the scenic route.

Once again, the Absecon United Methodist Church, encouraged by Walk Committee member, Nancy Gilbert Rhodes, raised the highest amount followed by Smithville and St. Paul's (Ocean Grove). The entire St. Paul's Youth Group donned matching tee-shirts and walked proudly under the guidance of their leader, George Robson. One young man walked barefoot because "Ocean Grove is holy ground."

Walkers rewarded with a gourmet luncheon at Francis Asbury Manor, were greeted by the AIM FC Praise Band, and blessed by Bishop Devadhar. The Great Auditorium Choir, under the direction of Dr. Jason Tramm, entertained the walkers, as did Vanity Fair. Door prizes were awarded to lucky winners. The Ocean Grove Historical Association gave tours of the historic tent area and the tent interiors.

"The commitment of the walkers, the sponsors, the committee members, and the staff at Francis Asbury Manor made the event a great success. Everyone had a great time and we raised more money than ever before," said Lori Sadwith, director of development.
